Forrest and Akiko Kinney were at the MTNA convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in March 2010. They presented several showcases, highlighting 'off the page' playing and creativity at the keyboard.

Peter Friesen's popular 'Take the Lead' book introduced the concept of reading lead sheets in various keys. Students can begin using the first book as soon as they can read notes in C position. Volume 2 includes:
- major and minor pentatonic scales
- slash chords (those not in root position)
- major and minor blues scales
- keys of D major, B minor, A major, F# minor, E major, C# minor
- all lead sheet pieces include a fully written out version in the Appendix!
